Lucy’s out of the hospital and back home for the weekend. Diuretics helped with the excess fluid and we’re going back for labs early Monday morning to see how the kidneys are taking it.
We’re also starting an antibiotic for C-Diff, which she tested positive for before we left.
For now, thank you for holding her (and us) in your hearts with prayer.
It must not be too bad if you can sit up and watch TV with chips & dip!

God is always good, and we are in his hands. +james
And once more we give thanks to our good and gracious God for keeping her in his arms!
Thanks be to God! And its wonderful to see her eating solid food too even if she is just sucking on it haha.
Ugh! C-diff! That is a nasty intestinal bug. Thanks to the miracle of the internet, I became a lay expert on it when I had a medium-to-severe case of C-diff in Dec-Jan of 2007-08. 70% of all cases are picked up in the hospital, and I must have gotten it when Jeannine was in the hospital for 45 days in Nov-Dec 2007. (Jeannine herself never had it, but thousands of surfaces in the hospital are infected.)
Anyway, the main reason I’m posting is to let you know that the antibiotic (vancomycin, if I recall correctly) should always be taken with a probiotic also, because the antibiotic is destroying the good intestinal flora as well as the C-diff. My doctor recommended Floristor (usually behind the Rx counter), which I continue to take to this day. (To quote the Mayo Clinic, “Without enough healthy bacteria, C. difficile can quickly grow out of control.”)
Feel free to email me at gottfamily@flash.net if you want to discuss. Maybe even better, check out C.difficile at Mayoclinic.com. Read it all, but note “Lifestyle and Home Remedies”, & “Prevention”. It seems like the lifestyle diet might be right up Lucy’s alley!
Finally, be aware that C-diff resurfaces in 20% of all cases. Cheery thought, huh? Keep surfaces clean with diluted bleach, especially surfaces near any bathroom activities.
So, when it comes to C-diff, we’re informing as well as praying!
Hello Katie & all,
Praying for you all!!
Love in Christ,
Sheryl
